Today, Donald J Trump has officially taken on the role as 47th President of the United States of America.
In his inaugural speech President Trump made a number of policy announcements that would be immediately enacted.
Trump started off his speech by coining former President Biden's administration as 'corrupted', as Biden and Harris looked on.
‘Making America Great Again’, has been the slogan of the new Republican President, and this will be put in motion by making America a manufacturing nation once again.
‘The inflation crisis was caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices, and that is why today I will also declare a national energy emergency. We will drill, baby drill’, he said.
The new President wants to use American fossil fuels and export it internationally.
‘We will be a rich nation again, and it is that liquid gold under our feet that will help to do it with my actions’.
To this end, Trump announced that he will end the Green New Deal and revoke the electric vehicle mandate.
This mandate is an Environmental Protection Agency rule that requires auto manufacturers to cut by 50% greenhouse gas emission in light and medium duty vehicles by 2027.
‘Today, we will end the Green New Deal, and we will revoke the electric vehicle mandate, saving our auto industry and keeping my sacred pledge to our great American auto workers. In other words, you’ll be able to buy the car of your choice.’
This decision is a big blow for many climate activists around the world, who are seeing one of their biggest allies in the fight against climate change do a drastic U-turn on crucial policies.
